On March 22, President Trump announced his intent to levy additional tariffs of 25 percent on certain goods imported from China. This follows a Section 301 investigation of China’s acts, policies, and practices on intellectual property. The US Trade Representative has released a list of about 1300 tariff numbers to be included under this proposal. Public comments to the list are due within 30 days of the publication and the tariffs cannot take effect before the end of May. The list of effected tariff numbers can be found here on pages 14-58. The list covers a wide variety of goods and is especially heavy on high tech and aerospace products. In retaliation, China has issued a list of 106 US products on which an additional 25% tariff will be placed. Those increases will not take effect until the US implements the additional tariffs. It is possible that further negotiations with China may take place before implementation.
