With the Golden Week holidays coming up, Alliances are advising the market of blank sailings. Ocean Alliance carriers are withdrawing two services on Asia to Europe and two on the Asia-Mediterranean trade lane. THE Alliance will cancel two China to US West Coast and one China to US East Coast. Shippers can also expect to see some more blank sailings as we are entering the slow fourth quarter. Despite all the blank sailings, shippers can still expect a lot of capacity to become available. A lot of this capacity is due to megaships. Xeneta CEO Patrik Berglund said that “[these ships] made sense in terms of economies of scale and optimizing transport costs, but the capacity injection required a huge demand increase.”
