The U.S. ELD mandate had a clear effect on cross-border trucking capacity and Canadian carriers last year. When the mandate took effect in December 2017, XTL Transport saw Canadian drivers who had been crossing the U.S. border for decades opt out of that business; especially smaller businesses. Unless they prepare now, it’s increasingly probable that Canadian shippers will see diminished capacity, disrupted supply chains, and rising rates under the Canadian ELD mandate, along with U.S. shippers who are heavily dependent on southbound cross-border traffic.
