President Delays Increased Canada Tariffs by Three Days
President Donald Trump has issued a Proclamation temporarily suspending the Section 338 tariffs of 50% on certain Canadian imports that were scheduled to take effect at 12:01 a.m. on August 19, 2026.
The suspension will remain in effect for three days and is scheduled to expire at 12:01 a.m. on August 22, 2026.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump stated:
“I have paused the 50% Tariffs against Canada, that were scheduled to kick in tomorrow morning for a three day period, based on the fact that Canada and the U.S.A., subject to the finalization of documents, have a DEAL!”
The temporary suspension follows an announcement that the United States and Canada have reached a preliminary agreement, with final documentation still pending. The three-day pause provides additional time for the two countries to finalize the details of the agreement.
We will continue to monitor developments and provide further updates as additional information becomes available.
