The building located at 2307 Burnett Boulevard, Wilmington, North Carolina is a tribute to a bygone era of international shipping. Favorite news articles, memorabilia and tributes are tacked proudly to a bulletin board. Photographs of sailing ships and various U.S. military moments and a faded copy of an early U.S. Customs entry document line the walls.

The oldest customs brokerage and freight forwarder corporation in North Carolina opened for business February 1960 and has since been integrated with CVI as of October 2017. Ms. Cathy Chafin, daughter of the original owner, celebrated the very special legacy of Waters Shipping by announcing her official retirement at an outdoor party held at the premises on Friday, May 25th. The date holds special memories for Cathy, who chose it to honor of her father’s birthday. In attendance on the beautiful early summer afternoon were members of the Waters family, principals of the Wilmington port, government officials, industry friends, and employees of both Waters and CVI. Visitors shared good food, conversation, and memories of past times with one another into the evening as Cathy gave her final goodbyes. What does the future hold for Cathy Chafin?  Time to spend with family and leisure hours she never had working in transportation! Best wishes to Cathy from her CVI family.
